Culinary escapade 3

Now this recipe made me feel bucolic, Greek & English at the same time. Before that, here’s the story behind the recipe;

My other ex-housemate who came from a remote village in Perak shared with me her mom’s classic Kerabu Tomato (tomato salad with kerisik (roasted coconut paste?)). I first sampled this with our Indian housemate when we joined her family for lunch after our Dip. Ed. Graduation ceremony abt 4 yrs ago in MPSAH (now IPSAH), picnic style! It was quite fun as we sat on a mat in the middle of the college field amidst the parked cars .

Ironically, a couple of eateries were just across the road but they were packed with other people. I really appreciate Ezrin for inviting me & Tami to have lunch with them. It was a scrumptious homemade spread. The Kerabu tomato is actually to accompany the smoked beef slices that they brought along.

Original Kerabu Tomato recipe

· 3 large tomatoes - diced
· 1 green/ red chilli - thinly sliced (bird’s eye are better ;p )
· 1/8 onion – thinly sliced
· 1 tablespoon of kerisik (roasted coconut paste)

*Mix well & serve with smoked/grilled meat or as a side dish with rice

Fusion version
  • The ‘original recipe’ plus diced celery /& japanese cucumber/zucchini.
  • Or add also steamed potatoes cut into cubes for a heavy salad.
  • Mix well

& this fusion version is served with Sausage Casserole, which u can easily find the recipe on the net
