Get this scenario;
You were asked 2 prepare for sumthin, quite important. U decided to follow d order even tho' uve made ur point dat wat they asked u 2 prepare on was actually not related 2 the issue at hand. So u feel comforted 4 awhile at the explanation/encouragement given. And so u've been preparing for like 40 days.
U brainstormd on ideas, trying to make the content fits perfectly. U even surfed the net to compensate the extra hour they slotted, to make sure what you put in wil be ...meaningful&worthwhile. Suddenly, u decided 2 do a final check, more like, for normality sake. A few calls, & then close to the 11th hour, all those 40 days preparation, the 55 copies of handout made, the period of being amazingly annoying around close fren (:p), not to mention the plans made with other people on your 'duty' hours - were put down the drain...

HOW would U FEEL? & WHAT would U DO?



Anyway, nothing is put down d drain actually. im juz lamenting on life's abnormalities, wic later become passing episodes in life....

From 1 door to another – MICELT 2008, Royale Bintang, Seremban.

Alhamdulillah Naz’s frens invited us 2 stay at their place in Mambau the nite b4 we need 2 register at the hotel. Naz was recuperating fr fever. If things turn 4 d worst, it wud b a nervewreckin driving experience 4 me if we had 2 depart on the morning of d registration itself fr Msjd Tnh…?! Registration starts at 7.30 am, mind you!

Once we arrived (the frens gave perfect direction--- we weren’t perfect direction-followers :p) Naz introduced me 2 her frens; Shida, K.C & Mai. Apparently they all taught in the same place once when Naz were in Johor. They were a jovial & harmonious bunch. As usual, I find it hard 2 communicate once after the introductn—Naz wudnt let me call her ‘kak’ since I work in KMM, but I cant juz call her frens there n then by their names?? Esp. since they r more or less 5 yrs older than me & the way things r btwn us, I kud sense their look saying “who’s dis "green"-looking lass?”. Totally awkward…!

But things started 2 warm up dat nite when out 4 dinner, while “queing” at Johnny’s, we chatted. I started by calling them ‘kak’ of course & found it a total relief towards the end. They seemed more com4table too, calling me ‘Adik’ d whole time..hehe..they never been able 2 pronounce my name even after Naz had told em. I hope Naz wudnt mind me addressing her frens wit ‘kak’.

Anyway, during MICELT, we went 2 different presentations most of d time. We’ve agreed dat it’s best if we kud cover as many topics/presentations as we can rather than goin 2 d same room d whole time. Naz has her frens 2 accompany her anyway. While I don’t mind & was more keen on goin 2 rooms dat has ‘group work’ / ‘cooperative learning’ theme in their titles. Because—I need 2 present my paper again in 2 more weeks, need 2 add sumthing 2 suffice d 40 min slot they r giving me.

There were a couple of sessions that we went 2gether esp. on topics dat were really, really interesting; An evening of Stories & Poems with Andrew Wright & Alan Maley, Feel Good Songs by Tim Murphey as well as Group Sensitive Teaching by T. Murphey and of course, all the Key Notes addresses.

I met a couple of familiar faces at d conference; Sis Yati fr Kolj MARA K. Nerang, d twin sister of my roommate during KPLI (I mistook her as Sis Yana at 1st?!) & another was my supervisor while I was doing ROS in SMK Asma, A. Star 3 yrs ago. But I hadn’t d chance 2 talk 2 d lady. I noticed on d list there were a lot of participants/presenters from IIUM also tho’ not of any1 I know.

I was merely a listener in most of the presentations dat I went to except 1 on wic the paper was abt Inculcation of Spiritual Intelligence in ESL . The presenters were fr UPM & wat made me really want 2 speak 2 em was because they talkd abt the education syllabus in UK. They talk abt the Religious Education that they have there that allow children to learn abt other religions openly in a more academic manner.

That brought me down memory lane when I was 10 & we had a priest coming 2 our class talking abt how Christianity started & the difference n similarity we have btwn Islam n Christianity (majority of those in the class were muslims). The priest came complete in his robe n color coded scrolls etc. I thought that was a really good exposure. If it didn’t make me remember much of wat was told, it surely embalmed a msg in my mind, dat it was done in a proper manner & every1 was open n willing 2 learn & 2 understand the culture & way of life of the others & wat made us common/similar. It was abt Finding the Good in others.

p/s: i'l always remember Naz's + kak Shida, KC & Mai's waffle-craving at d A&W! :p

Things that i wanted to say...but i didnt.

When you asked, “What’s your average day like?”, I wanted to say,
“Well, I normally go to work around 7.30- 7.40 am. I’ll fetch 3 other math lecturers who are staying in a house on my way to the college. I try to have breakfast at home. Sometimes I’d packed my breakfast/ buy from the café. I make sure I have breakfast, because I rarely have lunch on weekdays. Lunchtime from 1-2pm is not enough for me to pray zohor & go out to lunch! & most of the time, that is the only time when my students & I are available for consultation. Otherwise I’d meet them after office hours at 4.15 pm.
At the beginning I always go home around 6.30 pm. There’ve been days when I go home after isyak too, esp. after xm season/ to do meeting minutes/ to do research. I faced several burn outs then. So since a year ago I sort of made a vow to come home earlier, at least by 4.30 pm. Do you think I succeed?
Haha..it lasted only for a couple of weeks. But I think nowadays I come home at 5.30 or so. Well, that’s an improvement, right?
I prefer home-cooked food. So, coming home from work to cook is what drives me to be home earlier since I don’t have time for lunch on most days. It’s therapeutic at times. Otherwise it’s just biscuits & milo for me :p .
Weekends, sometimes I still need to go to the office on Saturday. Sometimes, my colleagues would ask me out for movies/ shopping/ sightseeing/ even sleep at their place, which is very rarely. Their place is abt 20 min from mine. I just long to lie down reading novels.
When you said, “I’m wearing Bata. Juz RM 28. I don’t mind but I need it to walk around here”. I wanted to say, “Hey, I’m wearing Bata also & Yes, I agree it’s troublesome if someone stole our shoes. Let’s juz tawakal & hope it doesn’t happen…”
When you showed me that German Mythology book, I was speechless, fascinated actually. .. What I had in mind was, “Wow, I could use that for lesson materials. In fact, I could use almost all that u showed me”.
When you asked "Do you like cats?". I only smiled. I almost laughed actually. I wanted to tell you "I half expected that question to come" & when it did, i couldn't say anything.
When you said, “You can flip the last few pages & see what it (The Secrets) says”, I didn’t do that & put the book down instead. But I’ve said what I wanted to say & shared it with you. What I wished to add was, “I’ve tried one of them (writing down what I hope for) recently & I think it worked. Maybe you can give it a try” :)
When you said, “Hope to see you again after this”, I wanted to say, “Yes, I’d like that”. But I didn’t…I couldn’t.
Finally, Thank You very much for giving me one of the most humbling experiences in my life.
